Man Utd v Arsenal: Betting Preview

Arsenal head to Old Trafford on Monday night, where they'll take on Man Utd in what is set to be the most bet on Premier League fixture of this weekends football action.

Although bookmakers offer Man Utd as favourites, Ole Gunnar Solskaer’s side haven’t beaten the Gunners since April 2018 and it's all set to be an extremely close match.

Both sides could really benefit from taking all 3 points on Monday night, with Man Utd only sitting in 8th place, while Arsenal will be looking to hold on to their top 4 spot.

Results from the last 9 Premier League clashes involving Arsenal and Man Utd are identical.

The Gunners won the last time they met (2-0 at the Emirates), but both sides have taken 3 victories from the last 9 matches, with the other 3 fixtures ending in draws.

It's a difficult one to call, and although bookmakers odds suggest Man Utd will win, either side could take the 3 points, especially as neither side have looked convincing so far this season.

In the lead up to the Man Utd v Arsenal fixture, we've taken a look at both team’s recent performances, and any player injuries that could affect either managers match preparations.

Man Utd: Team News

Ole Gunnar Solskaer’s Man Utd seem to be having one of their worst Premier League seasons in quite a while, having only taken 8 points and 2 wins from their first 6 matches.

Man Utd had a fantastic start to their campaign with a 4-0 victory over Chelsea, but have struggled since then, only securing 1 other challenging victory against Leicester.

Their last outing saw them lose 2-0 to West Ham last Sunday, unfortunately Man Utd didn't play well at all, and just couldn’t seem to convert any opportunities into goals.

A win against Arsenal would be a perfect result for Man Utd, especially as they'll face the seemingly unstoppable juggernaut; Klopp's Liverpool in a couple of weeks time.

They really need to start putting some points on the board at this stage of the competition, because at the moment it would be very easy for them to fall into the bottom half of the table.

Unfortunately Solskaer also has a raft of injury worries to contend with.

Luke Shaw, Paul Pogba, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Eric Bertrand Bailly are all injured and likely to miss the match against Arsenal on Monday night.

There's no reason why Man Utd would lose but if they don’t work hard and improve on their current form, Arsenal could come away from Old Trafford with a rare victory!

Man Utd: Form

Looking at the last 5 fixtures that Man Utd have played in all competitions, they've won 2, drawn 2, and lost 1 scoring just 4 goals (0.8 goals per game) but also conceding just 4 times.

Arsenal: Team News

Arsenal are having a much better season than Man Utd so far, yet they remain bookmakers underdogs for Monday nights match, perhaps simply due to Man Utd's home advantage.

Unai Emery’s side are currently sitting in 4th place on the league table with 11 points, and they really need a win against Utd, as their 4th place position isn’t very secure.

They're currently on the same points tally as 3rd place Leicester and 5th place West Ham.

The Gunners had a strong start to their Premier League campaign, winning their 2 opening matches, but they then struggled with a loss and 2 draws.

Their last match was against Aston Villa last Monday night, and although they took 3 points after a 3-2 victory, it wasn’t an easy win as they lost Maitland-Niles to a red card early in the game.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored the winning goal in the 84th minute, as a 10-man Arsenal side came from behind after Calum Chambers scored an 81st minute equaliser for Villa.

Emery has a few injuries to deal with, as Hector Bellerin, Kieran Tierney and Konstantinos Mavropanos are all set to be ruled out for the trip to Manchester.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles was handed a suspension after he was sent off for receiving 2 yellow cards against Villa and so he won't feature for Arsenal either.

Bookmakers offer the Gunners as slight underdogs for the match, but if they work hard, they could leave Old Trafford with an away win and 3 points given Man Utd's current poor form.

Arsenal: Form

Arsenal's record over their last 5 matches in all competitions is won 3, drawn 2 and not lost. They've scored more goals than Man Utd, 15 in total (3 per game) but conceded more (6).

Man Utd v Arsenal: Stats

Man Utd and Arsenal have played each other 230 times since the first match between theses two sides; Newton Heath v Woolwich Arsenal on the 11th of October in 1894.

Man Utd currently have the slightly better record over those 230 games and are one away from 100 victories having won 99 of the fixtures, compared to 83 wins for Arsenal.

There have been 54 games involving Man Utd and Arsenal in the Premier League era, with the Red Devils winning more than their fair share with 24 wins, 16 draws and 14 for the Gunners.

Of Man Utd's 24 wins, 16 of them were played at home, and 8 away. The 14 victories that Arsenal recorded were mostly home wins (11) with just 3 coming at Old Trafford.

The last 5 Premier League matches involving these teams have been fairly even as they've resulted in 2 wins for Man Utd, 2 wins for Arsenal and 1 of the games ending in a draw.

The last Premier League fixture between these two sides occurred on the 10th of March in 2019 at the Emirates with the 200th league meeting between them ending 2-0 to Arsenal.

Unai Emery oversaw the victory with Granit Xhaka scoring early in the match in the 12th minute before Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang sealed the win with a penalty on 69 minutes.

The last match where Man Utd played Arsenal at home at Old Trafford was when they met in the Premier League on the 5th of December in 2018 with the scores even at 2-2.

José Mourinho was in charge for the game and saw Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard score for the home side with Shkodran Mustafi scoring for Arsenal as well as a Marcos Rojo own goal.

The biggest win that Man Utd have ever had over Arsenal in a Premier League fixture was on the 28th of August in 2011 when they smashed them 8-2 at Old Trafford.

A crowd of 75,448 saw Wayne Rooney score a hat-trick with Man Utd's other 5 goals coming from Ashley Young (2), Danny Welbeck (1), Nani (1), and PARK Ji-sung (1).

Theo Walcott and soon-to-be Man Utd player Robin van Persie scored Arsenal's 2 goals.

The highest score that Arsenal have ever beaten Man Utd by in the Premier League era isn't quite as impressive as it was the 3-0 win on the 4th of October in 2015.

The match at the Emirates was watched by a crowd of 60,084 and witnessed soon-to-be Man Utd player Alexis Sánchez score twice with Mesut Özil getting Arsenal's third.

Man Utd v Arsenal - 19/11/2016

The Premier League returns after the International break, and what a game to kick off with! Man Utd vs Arsenal often results in epic games, and Saturday’s shouldn’t be any different.

Jose Mourinho has never lost a Premier League game against Arsenal, and Wenger will be desperate to secure his first competitive win against the Man Utd manager.

Man Utd host rivals Arsenal this Saturday at Old Trafford, in what’s set to be one of the biggest clashes of the season with online bookmakers offering Man Utd as favourites to win.

Although bookmakers offer them as favourites, they haven't been playing that well and in-form Arsenal, who have only lost 1 game so far, will be a tough team to beat.

In fact Man Utd have only won 5 games so far this season, currently sit in 6th place, 8 points below league leaders Liverpool and really need the points to keep up with the pack.

3 of the last 7 Premier League games between Man Utd and Arsenal have ended in draws, with the last draw being played out at Old Trafford back in May 2015.

This is probably going to be a close game, and if you think a draw is on the cards for this fixture, William Hill offers best odds on the result at 23/10.

The Man Utd vs Arsenal game is being shown live on Sky Sports 1 at 12:30 on Sunday 19th November, and is the match to bet on this weekend if you fancy a flutter.

Man Utd

If you agree with the bookmakers and can see Man Utd winning, Bet365 offers best odds at 6/4.

Man Utd's last match saw them win 3-0 against Swansea, but it was their first win in 5 Premier League games, and Mourinho’s men need to put a decent run together - starting with Arsenal.

It's easy to see why they're favourites to secure a home win, as they've only lost 1 of their last 10 matches against Arsenal, and they could add to that tally if they're on form.

Mourinho is still trying to figure out his best team, and Pogba still has to show he was worth the world-record fee the Red Devils paid for him to join the club.

Although Mourinho has been struggling since his move to Man Utd, he has an unbeaten record in league games against Wenger, and will be hoping this continues on Saturday.

Arsenal

If you’re betting on Wenger finally beating Mourinho and Arsenal winning, SkyBet offers best odds at 9/5. Arsenal are having a much stronger season, losing only 1 game so far.

Wegner’s men are currently sitting in 4th place, just 2 points behind league leaders Liverpool and a win against Man Utd could see them take the top spot.

Unfortunately Arsenal don’t have the best record against Man Utd, and have gone over 10 years without registering a victory over the team at Old Trafford.

Wegner’s men have lost 22 times against Man Utd in the history of the Premier League, with 15 of those matches having been played at Old Trafford.

Although Man Utd are favourites, Arsenal look strong and could easily beat them on the day.

Wegner has brought some new players to the team, with signings such as Shkodran Mustafi and Granit Xhaka, however they have a few injury concerns.

Sanchez is the biggest question mark for Wegner, but he looks set to return for Saturday’s line up, while Welbeck, Mertesacker, Akpom, Perez, Bellerin and Cazorla are out.
