Everton v Liverpool: Match Preview

The most important match of the Premier League season could have taken place this Sunday night at Goodison Park, when Everton take on Liverpool in the Merseyside Derby.

Had Man City not of beaten Arsenal 3-0 earlier in the week, Jurgen Klopp's could have been crowned 2019-2020 Premier League Champions if they win against Everton.

British bookmakers offer Liverpool as favourites to win the Merseyside Derby, and so they should as after all, Everton haven’t beaten them in any competition since 2010.

Liverpool fans had been waiting patiently for this moment since their last win against Bournemouth back in March which put them potentially 1 win away form winning the title.

A victory against their fierce Merseyside rivals, and also claiming of the Premier League title in one day would be the ultimate season result for The Reds. Unfortunately it wasn't to be.

Everton have always struggled against Liverpool sides, and it would be a big ask for Carlo Ancelotti’s side to beat Klopp’s side after a 3-month break and a number of injury concerns.

That’s not to say it will be a walk in the park for Liverpool, they've also have had time off, and so a lot's riding on how well they've maintained fitness levels for their first match in some time.

In the lead up to Everton v Liverpool, we've taken a look at both team’s recent-ish performances, and any player injuries or suspension that could affect either managers match preparations.

Everton: Team News

Unfortunately Everton haven’t had much of a convincing 2019-20 Premier League campaign, only winning 10 of their 29 fixtures to date, and currently sitting in 12th place on 37 points.

Ancelotti’s side has won just 2 of their last 7 Premier League fixtures, although they did have a tough round of matches before the season took a break to Covid-19 cancelling sport.

Prior to 'Project Restart' getting underway, Everton had faced Arsenal, Man Utd and Chelsea in their last 3 matches, and having to deal with Liverpool in their first match isn’t ideal.

It looks like Everton are also still dealing with a number of injuries, with Fabian Delph, Andre Gomes, Yerry Mina and Theo Walcott all set to be ruled out of Sunday's Merseyside Derby.

While this isn’t great news, Everton will be determined to stop their fierce rivals from edging a step closer to securing the Premier League title on their watch.

That determination could see them deliver a stronger performance than expected on the day, in saying that they've not beaten Liverpool in more than a decade of playing them.

Everton: Form

Looking at the last 5 fixtures that Everton have played in all competitions, they've won 2, drawn 1, and lost 2 scoring a total of 9 goals (1.8 goals per game) and conceding on 11 occasions.

Liverpool: Team News

Liverpool were having an absolutely stunning 2019-2020 Premier League season before it was put on hold due to the global pandemic, winning 27 of their 29 matches.

A win against their local rivals Everton on Sunday evening away at Goodison Park will see them edge another step closer to securing their first Premier League title in 30 years!

The Reds come into the Merseyside Derby sitting on top spot by a clear 25 points, having only lost 1 match so far this season, and scoring a whopping 66 goals in 29 matches.

Liverpool were having a stunning season prior to Covid-19 putting a hold on proceedings, and looked odds-on favourite to smash Man City’s 100 point record with 82 points from 29 games.

It looks like everything might be going their way, as Klopp doesn’t have any major injury concerns ahead of the match, with Andy Robertson and Mo Salah fit and back in the line-up.

The Merseyside Derby is always a great match to watch, but with the added pressure that this one brings, it's set to be one of the most exciting matches of the season.

On paper Liverpool should win easily, but it will be interesting to see how Everton deal with the added pressure of tring to put a spanner in the works of their title-chasing rivals.

Liverpool: Form

Liverpool's record over their last 5 matches in all competitions is won 2, drawn 0 and lost 3. They've scored less goals than Everton, 7 in total (1.4 per game), but conceded the same (11).

Everton v Liverpool - 04/10/2015

Everton v Liverpool should be one of the most exciting and most bet on Premier League games of the weekend with both teams desperately in need of a win and points on the table...

A win at Goodison Park on Sunday for the home side would see Everton enter the top 4, while Liverpool are under huge pressure having won just 3 games this season.

The Merseyside Derby is the longest running derby in the Premier League, and it’s quite rare for either team to beat the other in both league games in a season.

Everton are looking much stronger than Liverpool so far this season and are the online bookmakers favourites to emerge victorious in the match.

If Everton do win and then beat Liverpool at Anfield to achieve a double, it’ll be their first since the 1984/85 season! Make sure you check out the odds on this market.

When you look back over past Everton vs Liverpool derby's 6 of the last 10 matches have ended in a draw, including the last 3 played at Goodison Park.

A draw is therefore likely. The odds aren't too bad either and Ladbrokes offer best odds (12/5).

We've also taken a look at some of the best Everton v Liverpool betting offers, odds and special price boosts that British Bookmakers are offering for the upcoming Merseyside Derby.

Everton

Everton are having a pretty decent season, netting 3 wins, 3 draws and only 1 loss which has seen them reach 5th place in the Premier League table.

Everton are currently on 12 points which is only 4 points behind the leaders Man Utd, and a win against Liverpool would propel them into the top 4.

While they may be favourites to win this Merseyside Derby, Roberto Martínez’s team have gone 9 league games without a victory against Liverpool.

Liverpool aren’t looking too convincing this season and The Toffees, who are unbeaten in their last 4 Premier League games, should be gunning for a win.

The last 2 matches that Everton played Liverpool at Goodison Park have both ended in draws, but Everton’s strong attacking power could secure a win this time round.

If you’re betting on an Everton win, Coral offered the best odds at the time of writing (7/4).

Liverpool

It’s been a tough start to the 2015/16 Premier League season for Brendan Rodgers Liverpool squad, who seem to struggling to gel as a team.

After winning their 2 opening games, Liverpool’s victory against Aston Villa was their first win in 4 games and they really need to beat Everton to move up the table.

With Daniel Sturridge now back in the team, having missed the start of the season due to injury, hopes have risen that their form can improve.

Sturridge’s return has already made a huge difference to their performance, having scored 2 goals against Villa bringing their tally to 7 for the season.

Of course, one player is not enough if the entire team is not gelling, and Liverpool may struggle to beat Everton if they don’t pull it together on the day.

If you’re going to be betting on Liverpool to win, Betfred currently offers the best odds (15/8).
